Allerton Park Estate is located near Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, home of the Lords Mowbray, Segrave and Stourton - the oldest Barony in England. Set in landscaped parkland, the course was originally designed by Jamie Innes and Di Aspinall and included Intermediate/Advanced Intermediate fences for the first time in 1999.

The cross country course was heavily revised for 2005 by Gary Podmore, with many new or enhanced fences.
